The Impact of Occupational Noise on Worker Health
October 15, 2019

According to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, noise is one of the most common occupational health hazards. As part of the industrial and manufacturing sector, you have probably heard for yourself how certain processes or machinery, such as industrial air compressors, can generate high levels of noise. Most industrial air compressors put out a noise range of somewhere between 70 dB and 90 dB, with the higher end putting workers at risk of hearing damage over the long term.

Because air compressors are such a crucial part of many factories, it has become pivotal to innovate new ways to lessen their noise output.

Air compressor manufacturers such as Quincy Compressor are at the forefront of such research, recognizing the severe consequences of hearing damage which include:

  1. Social anxiety, isolation, irritability, and other mood disorders.
  2. Impaired communication.
  3. Decreased awareness at work.
  4. Decreased productivity.
  5. Higher chance of injuries or accidents.
  6. Increased expenses for hearing-loss related compensation and care.

In its report on occupational noise, the World Health Organization stressed that noise-induced hearing loss is incurable and irreversible. As such, prevention is key. Three recommendations put forward by the WHO to promote a healthier work environment include:

  1. Adhering to a good maintenance routine for machinery and equipment.
  2. Opting for machines and equipment that have lesser noise output.
  3. Updating the workplace to have anti-noise pollution measures.
  4. Providing workers with the training and protection needed.

Working with industrial air compressors is a necessity in many industries, but this does not have to come at the cost of hearing issues.

Understanding the importance of this, Quincy Compressor has been leading the initiative to manufacture reliable products that strike a balance between high output and quieter operations, continuing to give you the productivity you desire without compromising on safety. In fact, the new QGD and QGDV air compressors have been shown to produce three decibels less noise than comparable machines.

Reap Air Compressor Services is a proud provider of products and services for industrial air compressors, including the Quincy brand. As part of our extensive services, we can help maintain your air compressor to ensure that it continues to operate at tip-top shape. Good maintenance is one of the key steps in preventing excessive noise production. With our help, you can ensure a safer and better environment for your workers.

Wish my husband's factory cared more about his hearing!
